Animals

Opening Song:  Open, Shut Them

Open, shut them, Open, shut them

Open your little mouth

But don't let them in!

Every Week: Meet the Animals -laminated animals on board

Point to the animal on the flash card. Then you say the animals name (kitten, bear, bunny, bee)  Also,  draw your arm as a follow me gesture. (come w/ me) . Walk around to show each child the flash card and repeat the animals name and sound it makes.

Come on and take a walk with me-let's meet the animals!

I see a  bear (what does a bear say) Growl

The Noble Duke of York

The noble Duke of York,

He had ten thousand men

He marched them up to the top of the hill

And he marched them down again

And when they were up they were up

And when they were down, they were down

And when they were only halfway up

They were neither up nor down

Dance, Little Baby

Dance, little baby, dance up high

Never mind baby, mama’s nearby

High and low, fast and slow

Up little baby, down you go

Up to the ceiling, down to the ground

Backwards and forwards, round and round

Dance little baby, and mama shall sing

With a merry little bell that ding-a-ding dings

Where is Baby?

Where is baby? Where is baby? Where can baby be?

Peekaboo! I see you! Baby, you I see!

Where is baby? Where is baby? Where oh where are you?

Peekaboo! I see you! Playing peekaboo!

Hello Song: Good morning to you, good morning to you, good morning dear friends, good morning to you!

Sing: What are You Wearing? (tune of "Mary had a Little Lamb”)

(Name) has a (color) shirt on.

(Color) shirt on, (color) shirt on.

(Name) has a (color) shirt on.

I see him (her) here today.

The families really like this song, I've been doing it for the last four weeks and the kids love to hear their name and the caregivers like to watch their kids' reactions - plus we get to focus on colors and  patterns (stars, stripes, in place of colors).

Nursery Rhymes:

·Three Little Kittens

Three little kittens
They lost their mittens,
And they began to cry,
Oh, mother dear,
We sadly fear
Our mittens we have lost.
What! Lost your mittens
You naughty kittens!
Then you shall have no pie.

Mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow, mee-ow.
You shall have no pie.

Three little kittens
They found their mittens
And they began to cry,
Oh, mother dear,
See here, see here,
Our mittens we have found.
What! Found your mittens
You darling kittens!
Then you shall have some pie.
Purr-r, purr-r, purr-r, purr-r
Then you shall have some pie.

The parents liked it, the kids maybe not so much. This one I did just straight, no props. The next two worked better - shorter, and props...

·Pussy Cat, Pussy Cat (with puppet)

Pussy cat, pussy cat,

Where have you been?

I've been to London

to visit the queen.

Pussy Cat, pussy cat,

What did you do there?

I frighten a little mouse

Under her chair.

·Hey diddle diddle! (flannelboard)

Hey diddle diddle!

The cat and the fiddle,

The cow jumped

Over the moon.

The little dog laughed

To see such sport,

And the dish ran away

With the spoon.

Book: How Do You Make a Baby Smile? (with actions) by Philemon Sturges

The kids liked pretending to be the animals, and I liked that it had both mothers and fathers in it.

Sing: Egg Shaker song (2X) (to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb)

This is the way we shake our eggs

Shake our eggs, Shake our eggs

This is the way we shake our eggs

Because it's fun to do.

This was a big hit, and the older kids present wanted to do our opening preschool song, Shake Your Sillies Out, so everyone was up and shaking and dancing - fun!

BookPeekaboo! By Taro Gomi

This might work better one on one, or as a focus book, because you want to be able to give the kids a chance to look through the eye holes instead of just the reader (parent or librarian). Will pick a different book next time.

Bouncing rhymes:

Jack be Nimble

Jack be nimble,            Bounce baby on knees.

Jack be quick,

Jack jump over                     Lift baby up.

the candlestick.

Rickety, Rickety Rocking Horse

Rickety, rickety rocking horse,                Rock back and forth

Over the hills we go.                       Bounce up and down

Rickety, rickety rocking horse,                Rock back and forth

Giddy-up, giddy-up,                       Bounce Up and down

Whoa!                                                   Lean waaaay back

Action Rhymes:

·Eye Winker, Tom Tinker

·Eye winker,     place right index finger next to right eye

·Tom Tinker,     place left index finger next to left eye

·Nose smeller,   place finger on nose.

·Mouth eater,    place finger on lip

·Chin chopper, chin chopper, chin chopper,  Place finger on chin

·Guzzle whopper!      Big tickle on the tummy

·Hickory Dickory Dock

Hickory Dickory Dock

The mouse ran up the clock (walk fingers up from belly to top of baby's head)

The clock struck one             (knock gently on baby's noggin)

And down he run                  (then run fingers back down)

Hickory Dickory Dock

The bouncing rhymes and action rhymes worked great to refocus the room and give that random energy an outlet....i.e. less books, more music and actions. :)

SingHead and Shoulders, Knees and Toes (with music)

We did it twice, so much fun! The older kids did it themselves, and the younger kids were dancing in place so the moms could point to their heads, shoulders...etc.

BookStory Time for Lamb

Too slow for the kids. Will have to pick a better choice.

SingIf You're a Kitty and You Know It

...say meow

...lick your paws

...show your claws

...swish your tail

This was fun for the preschoolers-K, but I think the youngest kids were done by then, ready for some free play.

Goodbye SongThe More We Get Together (traditional)

Free Play: balls, board books in basket, stuffed animals, blocks, egg shakers.

We all played for another 1/2 hour, and I had a chance to visit with each parent and chat, as well as play with the kids individually and model the five practices.

Introduction

Welcome to Baby Time. Please participate as much as you can while we share rhymes, songs, music and books. If your child is not happy, feel free to leave and come back another time. We will be singing each song or rhyme two times so that your child can experience the repetition of the words.

Clap your hands (Wiggleworms song)

Clap your hands, clap your hands, everybody clap your hands.

Clap your hands, clap your hands, clap your hands, clap your hands

Everybody, clap your hands!

Tap your knees...

Touch your nose...

Wave hello...

Zoom-zoom-zoom!  We're going to the moon.

Zoom-zoom-zoom!  We're going to the moon.

If you want to take a trip, climb aboard my rocket ship.

Zoom-zoom-zoom!  We're going to the moon.

Five, four, three, two, one, blast off!

Open them, shut them, open them, shut them,

Give a little clap, clap, clap!

Open them, shut them, open them, shut them,

Put them in your lap, lap, lap!

Creep them, creep them up to your chin.

Open your mouth, but do not put them in!

Dance your fingers up, and dance your fingers down

Dance them to the side, and dance them all around.

Dance them on your shoulders, dance them on your head.

Dance them on your knees and tuck them into bed.

This is big, big, big.             Hold arms out to side

This is small, small, small.   Cup hands together

This is short, short, short.    Hold hands with palms facing each other

This is tall, tall, tall.             Reach one hand above head

This is fast, fast, fast.          Circle fists quickly

This is slow, slow, slow.     Circle fists slowly

This is yes, yes, yes.            Nod head

This is no, no, no.                Shake head

Time to share a book!

Tickles

Crawly, crawly, crawly, (crawl fingers up arm)

Up the wally, wally, wally. (to the top of the head)

Watch out little fly,

Don't you fally, fally, fally. (run fingers down to toes)

Round about, round about
(make a circle on the palm of the hand)

Went the wee mouse.

Up a bit, up a bit (walk fingers up the arm)

Into his house. (tickle under arm)

Bounces

Trot, trot to Boston. (bounce baby on knee)
Trot, trot to Lynn.
Better watch out (lower baby gently through legs on 'in')
Or you might fall in!

Trot, trot to London. (bounce baby on knee)
Trot, trot to Dover.
Better watch out
Because you might tip over! (tip baby slightly to side)

See the ponies walking walking down a country road

See the ponies walking walking down a country road

See the ponies trotting trotting down a country road

See the ponies trotting trotting down a country road

See the ponies galloping galloping down a country road

See the ponies galloping galloping down a country road

Now see the ponies coming home all tired out, all tired out, all tired out

Mother and father and Uncle John, went to town, one by one

Mother fell off, and father fell off, and Uncle John went on and on and on and on and on

Leap frog over the ladybug.        (lift baby to one side of lap)

Leap frog over the bee.     (lift baby to other side of lap)

Leap frog over the tickly clover,    (lift baby to other side of lap)

Then leap back home to me!  (lift baby to center of lap and big HUG)

There was a turtle, who lived in a box (cup hands together)

He swam through the water, he climbed on the rocks. (swimming motion)

He snapped at a mosquito, he snapped at a flea, (clap hands together twice)

He snapped at a minnow, he snapped at me. (clap hands together twice)

He caught the mosquito, he caught the flea, (clap hands together twice)

He caught the minnow, but he didn't catch me! (clap hands, then shake finger and shake head)

EGGS

(Laurie Berkner song)

I know a chicken, I know a chicken, and she laid and egg, and she laid an egg

Oh I know a chicken, I know and chicken, and she laid an egg and she laid an egg

Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! It's a shaky egg, it's a shaky egg

Shake it up, shake it down, shake it fast, shake it slow, shake it on your knees, shake it on your toes, shake it on your tummy, shake it on your nose.

Shake your rattle baby, shake it if you can.

Shake it like a milkshake, then drop it in the can.

We're going to Kentucky, we're going to the fair.

We'll see a senorita, with flowers in her hair.

Oh Shake it, shake it baby, shake it if you can.

Shake it like a milkshake, then drop it in the can.

(tune: Twinkle twinkle)

Shake it up, shake it down, shake it, shake it all around.
Shake it high, shake it low, shake it, shake it to and fro.
Shake it over, shake it under, pretty soon, you'll have butter.

Pop, Pop, Pop, pour the corn into the pot.

Pop, Pop, Pop, take and shake it till it's hot.
