Children become community leaders & develop skills & strategies to engage school wide participation in programs

Explore service clubs sponsored by the librarian and promoting school wide programs tied to curriculum standards:
* Reading clubs
* Booktalk programs
* Treasure Chest
* Request binder
* 5th Grade Library Helpers coordinate many literacy events including RIF, author programs, book fairs and monthly library literacy contests
* Green Team students create a variety of garden, environment & nutrition events
RTP Readers Theater & Puppetry Club
* Student Council K-5 plans school wide events like No Bullying Week and College Week plus monthly spirit days

1. Discuss components of service learning combining service to the school community with classroom curriculum: what students know and what they are able to do.

2.  Learn tips to encourage students take an active role to identify and plan projects, creating interest and excitement for learning, as well as accommodating different learning styles.

3. Examine samples of planning, programs and activities, rubrics and student reflection.
 
4. Workshop resources include bibliography: print and online, grant writing tips
