Workshop Title: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Grades: PreK Primary grades & teachers working with teen parents
Summary: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten: We will discuss current literacy & brain research, explore read aloud, puppets, songs, finger plays & other activities to engage preK-primary students. 
Workshop will include Discussion, Handouts, Participant Sharing, Small Group Work, & Interactive Activities.
Display will include samples of research & projects from Hilltop students as well as diverse books & resources to support early literacy. During the session participants will receive information that they will be able to apply directly when reading & doing literacy activities with infants, toddlers & pre school age children.
Workshop Agenda (90 min). Be specific!
10 minutes Introduction: Book, Puppet & Resource Display
30 minute Small group discussion of current research
30 minute Samples of Hilltop student research & projects
10 Develop literacy timeline/activities for PreK-primary children
10 Reflection, commitment post card & 3-2-1"
How is this a social justice workshop?
All children need literacy experiences. Early literacy like 1000 books before kindergarten provide opportunities for all children.
