ACTIVITIES

1. Students will observe lapsit storytime programs including many different things to keep the attention of little ones, and we always read at least one book.

For the babies, it's important to use short books with clear, bright pictures and students will learn to select books that can be more interactive. (It's good for young moms to see that you can share books with young children without reading every single word verbatim.)

2. Local children’s authors will visit & discuss books that encourage children to interact with text.

3. Our young moms will create original lapsit programs including a song, rhyme, fingerplay with movement & book. Literacy begin at birth.

4. They will make & use a mini flannel board as part of their lapsit program. (They will also be able to take their flannel board home to use with their little one.)

5. Each student will present her lapsit program to classmates (& babies).

6. Students will develop a lapsit rubric & give feedback to each student presenter.
